Visited Kwasimba dam in kalama and it was a heartening moment to see the dam full of water and the impact it’s having on the community.
This has resulted from our successful county dams rehabilitation plan.Similar projects across the county are positively impacting people’s lives and this is what transformative leadership can achieve.
ACQUACULTURE DAY 2024
Adoption of climate smart aquaculture will increase productivity and resilience while minimizing emission of greenhouse gases by not only safeguarding our food supply but also contributing to global fight against climate change.
Empowering our aquaculture farmers with knowledge and skills they need to adopt climate smart practices will enable them realize our chakula mezani, pesa mfukoni plan.
Joined by County CECM incharge of Agriculture Catherine Mutanu, Chief officers and county officials,I presided over machakos county annual aquaculture celebration day,at Kisukioni, Matungulu sub-county
Cofee Seeds distribution exercise at KwaMatingi Farmers Cooperative Society-Matungulu sub-county
I have this afternoon presided over coffee seed distribution to Kwamatingi farmers cooperative society in matungulu subcounty.
The 66000 seedlings set to benefit over 3000 farmers will boost coffee production,enhance it’s quality and restore our glory as a rich coffee producing region.
The society had stalled a few years ago and I am delighted to note it’s revival through interventions by our county Department of Agriculture and society leadership led by their chairman James Mwovi.
We will address all the challenges the society faces including inadequate social amenities as well as irrigation system to make their production easier.
Also present were our county CECM in charge of agriculture Hon.Catherine Mutanu, Chief officers and other county officials
Water And Sanitation
Cementing of Yatta canal
As Yatta MP,I spearheaded the cementing of Yatta canal through African Development bank financing to provide water mobility to farmers downstream as a strategy to increase food production through land irrigation, uplift economic well being of the people through cash crop farming and provide clean water for domestic use.
i also championed for funds for construction of Agricultural institute along the canal to provide agricultural training to the farmers and build capacity for more sustainable farming.
Disilting Mekilingi dam in Katangi Ward, Yatta constituency.
During disilting of Mekilingi Dam, In Katangi Ward, Yatta Constituency as part of long-term measure to provide reliable source of water to the residents for agricultural use through land irrigation and contribute meaningfully to addressing food insecurity, provision of water for domestic use and general biodiversity conservation .
The Dam will benefit close to 7000 residents of the area.

Katangi Vocational and Technical Training Institute in Katangi
A dream project of H.E Hon. Francis Mwangangi during his tenure as Yatta MP.
KMTC Yatta Campus located in Matuu level 4 Hospital Facility
in partnership with National Government through NG-CDF financing, i commissioned construction of YATTA KMTC CAMPUS in Matuu Level 4 Facility to provide capacity for training of nursing and other medical related courses to meet the market demand.
The KMTC Campus will also provide job opportunities for Yatta people, business opportunities for house owners in Matuu town and suppliers among others through multiplier effect.
Sports And Culture
Nurturing and Developing talents, Kyeleni Ward, Matungulu Sub-County.
I believe in the potential of the young people and supporting them through talent identification, nurturing and development through talent academies which will help realize the true economic value of talents young people posses.
I donated balls and uniform to young people in Kyeleni Ward of Matungulu Constituency, Courtesy of Good Hope foundation.
VISIT TO YATTA FURROW WATER INTAKE,SOURCE OF WATER TO YATTA FURROW FLOWING THROUGH YATTA CONSTITUENCY AND SOURCE OF WATER FOR MANY FARMERS.
Toured the Yatta Furrow intake and noted that the Water levels at Thika River have dropped significantly hence affecting water flow down the canal.As a County Government we will work with the national Government to fast track the construction of the Yatta dam which will offer a permanent solution to water scarcity in Yatta and by extension Machakos County.
In the meantime I appeal to the Yatta Water Services Board to ensure controlled irrigation along the canal so that the little water is available to all farmers downstream.

PROMOTED FRUITS AND VEGETABLE VENDORS,KITHIMANI STAGE, YATTA CONSTITUENCY AND ENCOURAGED THEM IN THEIR WORK.
Engaged fruits and vegetable vendors at Kithimani Stage and did some shopping to promote and encourage them in their business.
The vendors relies on Yatta Furrow as source of water for farming and ravaging drought has led to drying up of the furrow due to lack of constant supply of water at thika river intake.
It’s for this reason we are in the process of constructing Yatta Dam and this will ensure supply of enough water for agriculture and promote the economic status of the region.
As County Government,we will also construct modern market shades for the traders to comfortably sell their produce and promote business growth.

Addressing Gender Inequality in Representation and building Capacity for Women

Governments must address gender inequality in representations and build capacity for women by involving them in decision making, planning and management of nation’s affairs.
We aim to run a Government that advocates for social, economic and political rights of women by addressing social barriers which hinder their meaningful contribution to national development.
It’s for this reason we have partnered with FIDA KENYA during a consultative meeting together with H.E the Governor Hon Wavinya Ndeti ,to support women in the community to be more vocal and fully participate in decision making processes on issues affecting the society this afternoon at Machakos Whitehouse.

ZARA PROJECT IMPLEMENTED BY ISRAEL GOVERNMENT,AND CHAMPIONED AT THE OFFICE OF FIRST LADY, RACHEL RUTO.
During a consultative meeting with officials from Israel Embassy,led by the spouse to the Israel ambassador to Kenya H.E Yahel Margovsky at Machakos Whitehouse.
The team is implementing Zara project being championed by first lady H.E Rachel Ruto and seeks to facilitate environmental protection initiatives in partnership with other key players in the country.
We are comitted to promoting and adopting climate change resilient interventions which promotes environmental justice by partnering with every organization spearheading this noble cause.
In this regard,we will establish a 15 hectare peri-urban forest comprising of all indigenous trees next to Machakos City for sustainable development.

This years world environmental day campaign “Beat Plastic Pollution” encourages people to take action action that minimizes plastic pollution by using less single -use plastic and advocating for eco-friendly substitutes to enhance quality of life and build a safe and sustainable environment for us all.
To reduce carbon footprints,I implore you all to say no to plastic usage and put into practice the concepts of reduce,reuse and recycle to combat climate change and improve the quality of life.
This morning,during an interview at Athiani Fm – Wasya Witu Vinya Witu to articulate matters of National Interest.
On finance bill,while it’s a good thing to pay taxes for National Development,Kenyans are already overburdened by high cost of living and it can only be fair if the National Government explores other avenues to raise funds for it’s projects.
I also appealed to other leaders we embrace unity of purpose in serving the people and provide solutions to dominant issues in our region and the county at large.

Together with H.E the Governor Hon Wavinya Ndeti ,attended a County Public Accounts Committee Meeting led by Senator Godfrey Osotsi on water companies in Machakos County and other devolution related issues.
Water being critical to our agenda,as County Government through the committee,we have resolved to:
✓ Work together with the companies leadership to enhance profitability.
✓Review and reconstitute membership of boards to reduce mismanagement of company assets and facilitate provision of quality services.
✓Through stakeholder engagement,Consider merging the struggling companies to strengthen their capacity and reduce unnecessary spending that is not profitable.
✓Working with Tana-Athi water Company to develop a working formula and ensure resources belonging to Machakos people add value.
✓Introduction of new technologies such as smart water meters and water leakage detection systems to ensure efficient water distribution across the county.
